Most Famous Jewelry Designers

This February, New York, London, and Milan will each take their respective turn as the center of the fashion world during Fashion Week. Starting with New York, February 9th – 16th, the event showcases the pinnacle of fashion innovation and design. In celebrating this culmination of talent ascending upon the Big Apple, here is some of the most famous jewelry designers born in the U.S. and their imprint on the fashion world.

LEGENDS

Tiffany & Co. – Charles Lewis Tiffany:

Tiffany, Young & Ellis was founded in New York in 1837 by Charles Lewis Tiffany; later changed to one of the most widely recognized brands in the entire world, Tiffany & Company. A design icon throughout, they began selling diamond and platinum solitaire engagement rings. Audrey Hepburn immortalized the 5th Avenue flagship store in the 1961 movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s and is one of only two women ever to have worn the 128-carat Tiffany Yellow Diamond.

Harry Winston, Inc. – Harry Winston

Harry Winston opened his first store in 1832. Mr. Winston is world-renown for his contemporary designs and innovative approach in which gemstones, versus the setting, dictated each design. As one of the world’s most recognized jewelers, Marilyn Monroe references Mr. Winston in her rendition of “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend” in the 1953 musical Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and he’s widely remembered donating the Hope Diamond to the Smithsonian Institute.

GREATS

David Yurman – David and Sybil Yurman

David Yurman was founded in New York in 1980 by David and Sybil Yurman. The American jewelry company, recognized for sculptural and architectural designs, is most famously known for their Cable motif. Wrapped silver, platinum, or gold wire, left plain or decorated with gemstones, this design is incorporated into every David Yurman collection.

David Webb

Known as “The Quintessential American Jeweler”, David Webb is accredited for over 40,000 designs. Combining strong colors, new combinations of materials and animal themes, his designs included many different exotic creatures, including snakes, dragons, tigers, zebras and unicorns. Mr. Webb was a visionary whose style still impacts the industry well after his passing in 1975.

AN UP AND COMER

Kendra Scott Design – Kendra Scott

Unlike the other jewelers on this list, Kendra Scott reached the pinnacle of fashion success by focusing on jewelry priced under $100. Having created a billion-dollar jewelry brand, calling her an up and comer seems a bit off. She began making jewelry out of her home to bridge the gap between high fashion and affordability. Her designs have been worn by celebrities like Sofia Vergara and Jessica Alba and are featured on the runway by Oscar de la Renta.

Addison Taylor Fine Jewelry – Scott Berger

Scott and Marla Berger established Addison Tylor Fine Jewelry in 2004 in Scottsdale, AZ. Known for luxury and quality, Scott hand makes each piece showcasing unique shapes, colors and forms. Mr. Berger’s skill as a jeweler ensures that every piece is a work of art.
