November 24, 2017

When selecting a community to call home, the education that your children receive should be one of the first things that you consider prior to signing on the dotted line. The Northern Scottsdale area of Arizona is ranked among the highest in the nation for having top charter schools available for its residents. Although too numerous to name them all, here are our top three recommendations based on parent feedback, school philosophy and test scores:

SCOTTSDALE COUNTRY DAY SCHOOL

We will start with Scottsdale Country Day School, a K-8 educational facility, where their philosophy is: When you select Scottsdale Country Day School, you join a community bound by a mission of excellence, with families passionate about education, students fully engaged in their learning, and teachers committed to their practice as caring professionals. You truly invest in the present and the future of your child. Scottsdale Country Day School has test scores that far exceed the state average (Math and English both coming in at 73%, when the state average is 38%). They cap the classroom size at 20 students per teacher. SCDS constantly receives five out of five stars in parent reviews, with feedback including: “Amazing school that answers to the development of the whole child in a caring environment that is also academically thriving.”

GREAT HEARTS ARCHWAY CICERO

Our next suggestion is Great Hearts Archway Cicero, a K-5 school that believes by engaging a well-rounded program in a vibrant school culture, students are prepared for success in college, leadership in any field in which they choose to endeavor, and a life filled with purpose. With a curriculum built upon a classical liberal arts tradition and a revolutionary approach to school itself, Cicero cultivates the hearts and minds of students in the pursuit of Truth, Goodness and Beauty. Great Hearts’ test scores far exceed the state average as well (Science 88% on a state average of 53%, Algebra 1 61% on a state average of 37%, and Math 54% on a state average of 38%). Parent feedback includes: “We have been extremely impressed with Cicero leadership and teaching staff. They go above and beyond what is expected.” And they too, receive five out of five stars from parent feedback.

DESERT SPRINGS PREPARATORY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Our final recommended school is Desert Springs Preparatory Elementary School, a K-6 facility. Desert Springs is built upon the belief that by providing a safe and nurturing environment for their students, along with a quality education where they celebrate students’ successes. They pride themselves on high expectations for student learning with a focus on Core Knowledge, technology integration, and instructional strategies that support the Arizona College and Career Readiness Standards. Test scores at this school are far beyond the state norm: Science 82% on a state average of 53%, Math 56% on a state average of 38%, and English 66% on a state average of 38%. Feedback from one of the current families states: “This school helps kids develop wonderful social and academic skills. The teachers and staff are caring and friendly. There are many outlets for a child to excel in. Every child’s needs are met from honors to SPED. Wide diversity of students with a community of acceptance.” Again, they receive five out of five stars from current parents.
